New Year, Same Couple
Note From C2R: It’s a brand-spankin’ shiny new year. We couldn’t be more excited for what this year holds for our favorite couple. So What Did YOU do New Year’s Eve?
Ending the year in the same place they started it, Rob and Kristen spent New Year’s Eve on the Isle of Wight. How much do we love this? When other celebrities are posing for the paps in Vegas or Miami at some overpriced party, the Hobos are on a cold, little island off the coast of England chowing down on cheap drinks and pub fare. A recap of events:
- On December 30th, reports started to come in through the RKN (Rob and Kristen Network…otherwise known as Twitter and Facebook/ Twitbook) of sightings of the two arriving on the island. They apparently were with a group of about 20 friends, including Tom Sturridge (a celebration without Tom is like a party without beer *shudder*) and immediately hit up a Chinese restaurant after their long journey. OK, it’s only a ten-minute boat ride, but when you’re hungry, well, you know.
- December 31st-January 1st: After a day of ‘reports’ of Rob at a candy shoppe and buying flu medicine (insert naughty nurse jokes here), turns out Rob and Kristen had lunch at a local pub, where they also rang in 2011 where–dun, dun, DUN–a fan managed to wrangle a photo with them. They went back again on the 1st for lunch, begging the question: good food or are they just lazy? (We kiddddd)

So, really, aside from a few photos snapped of them, Rob and Kristen appear to have had a lovely, quiet New Year TOGETHER. But a boring, standard, coupley New Year’s makes for kind of a lame story. So..here’s where it takes an ominous turn. Behold: yet another display of the evils of Twitter.
January 2nd: A local “newspaper” in IoW started sending out tweets at around 3:30 P.M. local time as follows:
IW_GAZETTE: Just spotted Pattinson and his party in cowes at sea breeze having skinny latte #
2 hours agoIW_GAZETTE: Cafe owner calling police about 300 fans with camera phones trying tonged pictures lots of shouting
2 hours agoIW_GAZETTE: Owner of sea breeze calling police over Pattinson fans about three hundred with camera phones trying to get pictures of the couple lots of shouting
IW_GAZETTE: Owner is now shouting and is gonna call police if people don’t leave 2 hours ago
IW_GAZETTE: Pattinsoon just signed autograph on cheese and onion packet loads of people keep trying to pull the door open owner getting very upset

Wow, that sounds dramatic! And horrifying! And all around wrong, right? Just a couple lil’ problems here:
At the time of these tweets, Rob and Kristen were on a plane, somewhere over the Atlantic, on their way back to Louisiana for Breaking Dawn filming.

Exhibit B: FaceBook comment of them on same plane as a girl going to NOLA
So…Kraig and I were just sitting on the plane waiting for it to take off to new orleans…our seats we’re fit next to the door and I looked up to see robert pattinson walk right by our seats and sit only a few rows in front of us…we asked the stewardess and she said it was him and kristen….so we road on the same plane for three hours with both of ten right in front of us!
Now, we think Rob and Kristen are many things: talented, gorgeous, smart, opinionated, funny, etc.– but, god bless, they haven’t figured out how to be in two places at once yet (really, guys, start working on that). And, funnily enough, none of that mob of 300 apparently has a Twitter OR Facebook, as not one other account of said events ever surfaced. Unless you count Hollywood Life picking up the story, which given they are BIG FAT FAIL, we don’t.
BTW, those pictures that were “coming soon?” We’re still waiting. Oh, and would it be taunting at this point to note the newspaper deleted all of their tweets save the first and the last? Not surprising but somewhat disappointing a rag decided to embellish on the hobos’ time for an attempt at their own gain.
As for the other reports that came out of Rob and Kristen’s time TOGETHER, we mainly give people the benefit of the doubt that they don’t go online with the intention to mislead. But just as a general rule of thumb, disclaimers are everyone’s friend, and here are some examples of good ones: I don’t know for certain, I’m not sure, I couldn’t say, I didn’t watch them every freakin’ second of the night to document their every move. No one will begrudge you a disclaimer (little tip though: better to get it in early than add it after the fact); they’ll probably respect you for it. It’s much better to say “I don’t know” than it is to pretend otherwise. Because if you include an account of a couple’s evening that does not have a single mention of them interacting and then a picture comes out of said evening wherein they are interacting (with their mouths), you will look like a liar, even if that was not your intention.
As for the other fan account, we respect that “fan” HB was able to get a consented picture of Rob and Kristen posing together. As for her description of the encounter, we have no doubt Rob was lovely ‘cause, I mean, when is he not? As for Kristen, we read “different” as “super fuckawesome”. We also read scowly, surly, sullen, standoffish, etc. as “super fuckawesome” – that’s probably what she meant, anyway. And she totally was, to pose for a picture she probably didn’t particularly want when she was on vacation with her boyfriend.
We’re not going to lie, we love pictures of Rob and Kristen (duh). We were, what? 99.9% sure she was there with him but photographic proof was a lovely New Year’s gift and a great way to start 2011. And the great thing about fandom is it mainly happens totally separate from them, so while everyone else was debating “exactly who is this cow“, the hobos were on a tiny island, likely in their bubble, celebrating midnight in peace. And twenty bucks says they smooched.
