RLC Fic Rec – The Mail Order Bride (and then some)
Hello, reader peeps
So I always rec whatever it is that I just happened to read that I felt was so good it must be passed on. Very few times do I flounce a fic. I happened to have done that this week. Though it is not The Mail Order Bride – I’ll get back to that in a minute. I started the week reading Just Wait. I saved this one because I knew it had a huge following. Plus my bestie read it and liked it. We have the same tastes so I thought I’d be ok. Bestie warned me this one was not for the faint of heart though; there was angst. And a lot of other unpleasant things. But I had every intention of reading it because it’s an Edward and Bella story, damnit. And with such a huge following, I couldn’t go wrong.
Well I see why this fic had so many readers. It’s written really well. The UST is off the chain. But our beloved characters are deeply wounded. Like, terrible, terrible things happened to them, and it is only with each other that they are able to work these things out. I am sorry to say this was too much story for me. I had to stop reading it. It is horrible what happens to E/B, and I just couldn’t keep reading. I switched stories and have just begun another called The Mail Order Bride written by Lady Gwynedd.

Author’s synopsis: It’s the late 1800s in the wild west. A lonely man seeks companionship; a woman restricted by convention seeks a future. Add those together and what do you get?
I’m afraid I can’t even give you too many deets on the story. I’m only on chapter two. But I rec this fic for several reasons. It’s very well liked in the fandom, and it’s got an interesting premise (mail order Bella, very original!). Also, this is not only a complete story, but it’s got a COMPLETE sequel called Bear Valley Ranch! So if you love the first one, there’s more to read.
You can find both of these stories on FF.net.
If any of you have read this, drop me a comment and tell me what you thought; I’ll be sure to leave you my thoughts on next weeks rec

Wait, wait, wait. YOU could not finish a fic? YOU who loved The Red Line? And what was that one where Bella was an anorexic? That really depressing one? That must have been some hardcore shit lol <3 Great rec baby.
I read a lot of fic, Just Wait included. You are not missing a thing by flouncing that one. It’s angst till the bitter end. I’m not a “all tied up in a happy, pretty bow” girl but that story left me with the WTF face.
Really like how you admire these young actors. Am a movie fan and have been since I was 3 years old. (57 years later) Of all the new kids in the business, Kristen Stewart has been my favorite since Panic Room. I believe Rob Pattinson is truly blessed Kristen found Edward and gave him a magical career. Little Ashes and Remember Me were ok movies, but Stewart has mad ok, good and terrific movies for many years. There have been many acting teams that have made it on screen but not off like Tracy/Hepburn, Taylor/Burton, Bogart/Bacall, Hanks/Ryan, and now, Stewart/Pattinson. Bill Condon was smart to film the romantic scenes first. For their professional careers, I hope they both have tremendous success beyond the Saga years. Mr. P will be eaten alive by every wanna be model, bimbo actress, and studio in the months to come. Kristen was a very smart and a wise soul to keep her life private. None of her business can be fodder for the rags or entertainment media: still got nothing on her. Continue to do well on your site. I enjoy reading it daily.
Absolutely agree with this rec!!! The Mail Order Bride (and the sequel) is FABULOUS! It is a bit different, yet Bella & Edward are still kinda/sorta in character (minus the vampire/supernatural stuff). Cowboy Edward? Freaking hot! And one of the best written Bellas around—I LIKE her so much! She’s intrepid! I’m a fan of historical fiction (and of Westerns), so once I found it, I couldn’t stop reading! Imagine my surprise when I realized that there was a sequel!
If you want an intelligent, entertaining and really romantic tale without piles of unnecessary angst then this is for you.
Thinking of this story—and the characters—STILL puts a smile on my face. It reads like you’re watching a movie. (A really good one.)
Chonga,
I can not find Just Wait. Do you know the direct link? Thanks
I put it on my to read list based on your recommendation. But I then went to her Livejournal site, and she wrote – “Class. It’s a good thing, Kristen. Robert has it. You don’t. Does she ever wonder why photogs always want to shoot her in derelict buildings and trashed up trailer and Robert gets elegant mansions by the sea? You know, she’d be perfect if she’d just clean up a bit.”
Sorry, I won’t read something written by someone I totally disagree with, no matter how good it is.
