Me Cago En Ti

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.  I disagree.  It’s the sincerest indicator someone wants to receive flattery for something that isn’t theirs.  There is nothing more irritating than having others duplicate your work and then try to pass it off as their own.  I’ve got a message for those sites that think no one will notice if they pilfer our shit: we’ve got people everywhere & you fail at the internet.

I’m  not going to name any of these sites, because I’ll be damned if I’ll give them any hits.  I bone-headedly did so on Twitter the other day and then immediately felt like a dumb-ass.  It wasn’t long after we began our forum that the first pretender popped-up.  They registered almost the same exact url as ours with one letter difference.  Then twitter accounts began appearing with names that weren’t exactly the same as ours, but were close or a variation of our name.

A few months ago RobstenLover, @kmitch1217, came up with the idea to do a weekly feature for the blog where she’d compile links to the week’s Rob and/or Kristen news in one place called the Weekly Robsten Roundup.  At least four sites have since done the same thing, and didn’t even bother to change the name!  Except Teddy @ The Awful Truth, who called his Robsten Gossip Roundup or something.

And then this weekend RobstenLover emailed us a link to a site that uses our exact name.  Although, like most of the copy-cats, it’s cheap and on a free host with a blogspot url.  Of course they post no original content, and they’ve craftily combined their “Affiliates” section with their “Places to Visit” section so it looks like all the sites listed are their affiliates.  Several of those sites are our affiliates, and I’m fairly confident they wouldn’t associate with this blog.

We have nothing against other legit Robsten sites.  We’re buds with a few of them *points to our affiliates section*.  But we take extreme issue when others think they can skip the portion of site ownership that includes building a name for yourself.  We’ve worked hard so that our name is associated not only with Rob and Kristen, but with respect, the truth, and a measure of class and dignity (just a small measure though, because honestly, we’re pervtastic fangirls sometimes, am I right?).  These sites have no class or dignity, and when they use our name it has the potential to cheapen us by association.

We take consolation from the fact that in almost all cases these sites aren’t able to hack it and eventually fold.  This isn’t Field of Dreams; building it does not guarantee they will come.  Most people can tell the difference between Filet Mignon and Spam.  There will only ever be one Robsten Love, and that’s us.

    Hello Admins,

First of all we would like to sincerely apologize for the fact we called one of our blog post the same name you use for yours.

(We tried to send this via email, however it bounced back)

We don’t want to place blame but just to let you know – the ‘idea’ of doing a ‘Round up’ of our weekly posts & the name was given to us by one of our site members (who probably is a member of your site also) … we clearly should of looked into the idea before using it!

Please note; we have since removed these blog posts from our website & will not continue with it in the future.

We are extremely sorry and will from now on be more careful with the items we post.

    Thank you,

    The RobstenGossip Team

P.s: If you need to speak to someone further regarding this matter you can email – scarlett@robstengossip.com (Site Creator)

    Um, wow….
That’s.. I don’t even know what to say.
The site, I run has a similar name to yours. It’s Robsten Lust though,
and I already feel like I’m taking something from you.
But believe me, you guys are an icon, and nothing can change that; and I love you :)

I can’t believe the guts of those people.
I know there is a lot of copying and pasting in this fandom, but a whole website?
How do they even have credibility? Yeah, they don’t.
Serves them right to be called out.

Loved the post….and the title and the pics.
Way back when Robsten Love started there were so many people critising that we even believed that Robert and Kristen were together. And now they copy your site.
Hope that there will be more apoligies in the comments section and to admin personally.
    Cheers

I just found your site from another site, and now I’m your devoted fan. I sure hope you all stick around. So many sites seem to close too fast, especially the good ones. I love the CAT! The cat is cracking me up. I’ve come just to look at the cat. Plus everything else is awesome too. Thanks so much!
