Box Office Babe
There has been a lot of hype lately with how well Eclipse is doing. And what’s the talk of tinsel town? Robert Pattinson has done it again. That’s right; credit goes to the dashing, debonair, modern day Mr. Darcy. But what about our sex-kitten, KStew?
If we’re going to be completely honest with ourselves, the books brought the success of the films. But the actors have since built on what the books have done. The Twilight Saga is Bella’s story, and therefore Kristen’s. Rob has said it himself; Kristen is the lynchpin of the entire series. Without her, there would be no story.
So where’s the love? Why don’t we hear raves over how Kris is drawing in the big bucks for Summit? I realize the fan base consists of mostly females who admittedly prefer the brooding vamp or hairy pup over the fairer sex. Yes, sex sells. And with us horny Twihards fueling the box office flames, of course the spotlight will shine brightly on what wets our panties more than any other – Rob and all his appendages.
But I, as a female fan, think Stew gives good box office head a stellar performance, and would just as easily pay $10 to see her watch paint dry as I would Mr. Pattinson. She’s breathtaking, captivating, heartbreaking and affecting. Beyond Twilight, the films she chooses have characters that are complex and multi-faceted, leading to performances that are equally so. You can be certain of eminent art and haunting resonance if you’re watching a film starring Ms. Stewart, so let’s not forget to give credit where it is due.
Bahaha..pay $10 to watch paint dry. I would totally pay to see that too:). I love her hard and watch all of her films!
One of the most frustrating things about the Twi fandom for me is how much I think Kristen is underappreciated and how she is picked apart in a way the guys aren't. But I just think, women are harder on women and I think women are more likely to credit men over another woman.
Awesome post DK! I have to agree…Kristen does not get enough credit for her performance in the twilight series. Not only is she the lead, but she is who insisted on rob being Edward…and for that I am eternally grateful
I actually think that Kristen carried NM completely. She did such an awesome, believable job. I look forward to see her in her upcoming projects. I have loved everyone of her past ones. Great job again DK..you did our girl proud.

I think Rob and Kristen are both not appreciated the way they should be. Summit is pushing Taylor more than Rob and Kristen and the triangle more than Edward and Bella's love. We all know that without Kristen/Bella there is no story and without Rob/Edward, there isnt a love story, so the real question is why Summit doesnt hop on the bandwagon and give us more Robsten!

I hate it and I'm sure most would agree that it stinks. Guys get all the Glory and the women just get all the backlash.
Kristen has been receiving the most hate since the Twilight series became a world-wide phenomenon. She has been criticized for absolutely everything she does from what she wears,does,or says. When Kristen has a fashion blunder people say she 'doesn't have any taste' or 'she's not stylish' yet Rob came on the Red carpet one time with a wrinkled shirt && messy hair and people labeled him as being 'HoboLicious'
She had to apologize for saying she felt violated for papz taking pictures of her and it felt like Rape even though she didnt mean any harm by it she even played in a movie called Speak where she played a rape victim and people still criticized her. Chelsea Lately and her crew slammed Twilight because they said the acting was horrible but they didn't judge the whole cast they picked Kristen out of the whole bunch and just judged every little thing and it was horrible.
My whole point is until the double standard is dead and gone [which I'm sure wont be any time soon]
many female actors are never gonna get the credit they deserve not Just Kristen. I was a huge fan of her work before Twilight and she still never got any credit for those roles.
I'd bet money if the Twilight movie series flopped people would have blamed it all on her. I agree that summit should have spent more time marketing her and the true meaning of the story which is being in love for the first time,instead they have decided to market Taylor Lautner's abs to clueless teenage girls who are just into hot guys && could care less about a love story because they have never been in love and also the dumb love triangle those of us who are devoted fans and actually read the books know that there was never a choice that had to be made it was always going to be Edward.
We all know that Robert is talented and we definitely know Kristen is super-talented truth is without BOTH of them there would be no story. They are continuing to do other successful projects besides Twilight & even if Kristen never does get the recognition she deserves NOW. I'm sure she will in the near future especially with devoted fans like us supporting her. On the other hand I think it's Taylor we should be worried about when this series is over,I'm sure it'll be kind of hard landing a serious acting role when all you've been able to do is show you can take off your shirt.

PrettyBrownEyes I completely agree with you and that was a discussion on another site as well. Out of the whole cast, Taylor is the one…even tho he is promoted the most…that should be worried. Having a great body in Hollywood comes a dime a dozen and all they are selling is his abs. The boy is not a great actor, he isnt even taken seriously, so once the franchise ends where does that leave him? No where in the vicinity of where he needs to be in order to be taken seriously as an actor. People dont even call him by name. He is the six pack kid, the guy who is always shirtless, etc. Taylor is losing his identity already so while yes it is ridiculous that Kristen is constantly criticized by people one thing is clear. The girl is serious about her acting and can be taken seriously.
Rob, Kristen, and several others in the cast fall back on more than their looks. They are actors and it isnt all about the fame. Now Taylor might not be all about his fame, but his people sure as hell are. If he doesnt start thinking about his future and taking on some serious roles, I dont see how he will progress. Kristen has proved her acting chops and like Rob is busy at work not on these huge blockbusters, but films that have depth and meaning. In the long run, that will take them places. Taylor might be in the spotlight now and Kristen might get bashed for no good reason, but I think it is safe to say that she is miles ahead of him as far as building a resume that people can respect. That is why I love Rob and Kristen. It isnt all about the franchise or their looks. Rob isnt constantly in interviews talking about his looks or how much he works out. There is more to him than that and in Hollywood there has to be in order to get far. Depp, Pitt, and Clooney all have something more than their sexiness, they are true actors who can play different roles. I can see Rob and Kristen in different characters, I can see Jackson and Nikki as well, but could I see Taylor Launter in a serious movie where he has to expand his acting ability from taking off his shirt and saying a quick line to actually being respected as an actor…..can the boy be in a movie where he is fully dressed for the whole thing? I dont see it but Kristen and Rob have good heads on their shoulders and that will take them far. It isnt Taylor's fault though. He is getting bad advice and that advice is making him follow in the paths of many teen heart throbs that end up on where are they now five years later. It is actually kind of sad and I hope he breaks out but Taylor just doesnt seem like the type that has something truly special. Contrary to popular belief…abs do not make you special.

I completely agree with your post as well.
Most people might look at my post and think I'm bashing Taylor but I'm really not. Just like you said I hope that once all of this is over he can take on some serious roles and actually be known for something other than taking his clothes off. I hate the way this movie series promoted him but I also love the films/books for the real life lessons/values it teaches.
I love when you said abs dont make you special because in today's society not very many people are comfortable in their own skin and they should be. Twilight shows a gorgeous guy falling in love with an ordinary looking clumsy girl,which is sending a message that Real love goes deeper than the physical aspects it's whats on the inside that counts.
I wish these important Valuable aspects would have been pushed to the forefront a little more instead of all of the superficial things.

I forgot to say that I also love the fact that Rob and Kristen take on small movie roles and do independent films. It shows that they actually love what they do and when you REALLY love your job you dont do it for money it's something that you would do for free and you just happen to get paid for it lol
thats one of the reasons why I love these two.
They are young yet so beyond their years and I know they will have much success in the future.
The books definitely have amazing messages but I fear that a lot of the messages have been watered down in the movies. Jacob wasnt this sex symbol like he is in the movies, Edward and Bella's love was much more apparent, but there is one message that they actually got right in Eclipse and that is the message about abstinence. The scene in Edward's bedroom was hot and yet also showed that a couple can be passionately in love but a real man is willing to wait for sex even when his girlfriend is more than willing. You dont have to jump in bed together. I did find it interesting that in an interview Kristen pointed out what I was thinking since reading the books. The one thing that Jacob would have given in the teen relationship that Edward didnt is sex or as she put it they would have ended up in bed together long ago. Jacob made it very clear that he wanted Bella and Edward mentions on several ocassions that Jacob's thoughts especially after he became a wolf were vulgar about Bella. At least they did keep that message in and didnt water it down. I feel like they tried to sex up Jacob's character and make it a huge deal that he was shirtless instead of seeing the real reason why he was…because he would rip his clothes if he phased. They had Taylor shirtless at times when he didnt need to be just to add that sex appeal. I do hope Taylor moves on from this but it will be a big uphill battle in the long run for him.
I love her and honestly I make a point to see every movie she has coming out no matter how far. I think that Summit pimps out the guys for more lusty factor for those which isn't fair. They forget about her which like Rob said people would see the movies but everyone needs to admit she is one of the Main reasons we go.
Plus i personally like her a lot as Bella but I honestly love seeing her other roles because she is like Rob so outside of the 'Twilight world".
I love Kristen Stewart and Ican't stand all the hate that is dished her way xo unfair she deserves better. I like Rob too but mainly I like them together the best!! I just purchased the movie CakeEaters andshe totally rocks in that movie to play a part like that at her age shows you how talented the girl really is. I'm now reading On The Road so I'm prepared for her next movie. I can't wait for Breaking Dawn Iknow it will be awesome cus ofthose two ROBSTEN!! I'm so glad tofind a sight with out haters all those other sites say they are not but they're full of it!!
Yes, I agreed, she was under appreciated but to tell you the truth I watched more Kristen's films than the other actors! I love this girl, she is just too mesmerizing to watch. I also love Rob and her together so I wish they will make more movies together outside Twilight. I am pretty sure I will be using my hard earn money to watch her movies in the future.
I hope to do another movie together, to a realization of Kristen and Robsten truly !!!!!!

Even if it's not a romance though I just want them to at least do something else together when Twilight is over. They have such amazing chemistry and that ALWAYS makes a great movie

i am so GLAD Rob mentioned kristen being the linchpin of the series so the whole world will be reminded..i wish he wouldve added that without kristen i would not have been casted and been where i am today…because folks w/o kristen there wouldve been no Rob…it wouldve just been some superficial conventional good looking guy with no personality who by now wouldve let the fame go to his head!! thanks to kristen, we have Rob..so instead of hating and putting her down, we should be thanking her..
someone asked me awhile ago…will you go see twilight because of taylor or kristen?..i said kristen and she was shocked!!! i said i am going to see her because im a fan and she asked me..what about the fact that taylor has a hot body and i was like…so???..that's nothing to me…she should be appreciated more..so glad she has Rob because he knows she is the one of the best actress of her generation and she is better than anyone else…i completly agree, his words not mine!

I also love how this blog has mature people on it and we can actually agree on something without any drama. People who are so 'RobSessed' are so one-sided they dont even realize that without Kristen saying
'It had To be Rob' he wouldn't have even been cast. Of course most of those people probably never followed any of Rob's work up until now and now all of a sudden their his biggest fans ?
it's quite hilarious to me. I've never claimed to be a huge Rob fan,before Twilight I only knew his as the guy who played Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter,but I've grown to love him as a person by seeing him grow and mature during these past couple of years. He is so humble and grounded and thats why he is definitely going to go far. Like I mentioned before earlier the double standard will probably always rule over everything but I will continue to speak out about it and support Kristen in everything she does..&& I can't wait to see

She has nearly as many film credits (and counting) to her name as years of age. She's worked with some of Hollywood's best from the time she was knee high. Did it ever occur to these geniuses that she's acutely aware of the fact that she doesn't need to have her personal life plastered in an international forum or shutterbugs capturing every blink to do her job. She's experienced the 4 Ms-movie making minus mayheim for half her life,so excuse her for being astute enough to not buy into the celebrity gossip b-s. Becasue she refuses to play their game the way they want her to, so they can make more money off her hard work-they bash her!
How cool is she to say "okay-you've seen the outfit-you got your pics, now let's lose the shoes!" The true mark of womanhood is learning what makes you comfortable and how to be comfortable in your own skin. AND that you have the right to your own mind and the right to change it-whenever-whatever! So Glammed up or Casshed out-where's all the praise for being a self assured young woman? Isn't that the POSITIVE message they want out there for young girls? I guess that's ONLY if the media decides they like you because you do want they want and tell them what they want to know. Hey DK – start a campaign to get everyone (including the Twi-moms)to wear TEAM BELLA shirts to "Breaking Down"! I Love Rob, Taylor too, heck the whole cast and I am Team Edward (the puppy's the pool boy- Edward owns the estate) But there has been enough fuss over the boys. Afterall Bella- THE SHIELD is the true heroine of the story!
Really have to do another film together, pleace! have to be blind not to see the Chemistry between the two (nobody can imitate)…….

I completely agree to what you're pointing out here. why? Because it makes sense, that's why. I fell in love with this story and I had no problem reading from a simple girl's point of view..because it helps any girl who's reading it relate to the story more. It helps them climb inside and see what's going on. And a story like Twilight…well…climbing inside a simple girl's head was one heck of an adventure with Twilight. And I loved Bella for that. i loved her AND Edward together. I immediately realized their situation and I respected it. I respect Bella for who she is and her bravery and what she endures. I'm not jealous of her. I don't want to factor myself into the equation of the story. Because I love it too much. There are just some people out there that go and say, "oh, bella is an idiot." and "she wines all the time"…when…really THEY'RE the ones that feel like idiots because they feel, in comparison to bella, why can't THEY get a guy like that? and really THEY'RE the ones that whine all the time because they're jealous of Bella. They are jealous of this regular every-day girl who got thrown into all of this. And therefore, they don't have respect for her. It's disgusting. For example, i was at my local Eclipse premiere at midnight and it was a major kick-off. And at the premiere they had this thing where they noticed all the unique shirts that some of the fans had and they had us line up (me being one of them because I was the ONLY one with a Team Switzerland shirt)and I was placed next to this girl who had a t-shirt (THAT SHE MADE) that said: "Team Anti-Bella". I looked at her…looked at the shirt…then looked at her again..and i said…"You need to learn some respect, girl." I was so satisfied I said that! So that's one of my experiences. And I find them nauseating. If it weren't for Bella…what would Twilight be? AND…if it weren't for the INCREDIBLE Kristen Stewart…where the hell would Bella be???? I hate to say it…but a lot of this fanbase are girls who are completely obsessed with Taylor's abs…or Rob..or even both and they are living in their own little fantasies where they put themselves in the place of Bella/Kristen. It's nauseating. That's where the nonstens are known to be raised. It's a bad area of the fanbase.
They try and try to put Kristen down..even at my job there was this girl trying to say that Kristen wasn't pretty! i had my own little way of straigtening her ass out….
And yes…Rob is BRILLIANT. I SCREAMED WHEN he said that at the MTV Movie Awards. I was like: YESS!!!! But she is the lynchpin of the series. Kristen/Bella IS twilight. She's the whole reason Edward is there. She's the whole reason that Jacob came busting into the story line so much. This is why I cannot WAIT for Breaking Dawn..because it will shove them in their places..those little morons. They'll see…Bella comes straight out on top just like Kristen came out on top by breaking all of Hollywood's rules. Don't even get me started on trying to explain Rob and Kristen…I typed up a storm the other day on that subject. They are a lot like Edward and Bella, I've come to that conclusion. Just you wait..after Breaking Dawn is over…they're gonna come out of hibernation. Lol. But…to conclude this comment….BELLA IS THE FREAKIN' STORY. AND KRISTEN IS THE LYNCHPIN OF THE SERIES.

Now I will be the first to admit that I am 100% Team Edward and proud of it. Edward and Bella are the best and I fell in love with their story. Everything else is just a sidenote even Jacob's yearning for Bella. It all comes back to Edward and Bella's love. Does it annoy me that most of the "fans" these days are just into Jacob because Taylor has nice abs or into Edward because Rob is the best? Hell yes because I can name hundreds of valid reasons why I am Team Edward and none of them have to do with the actors that portray the characters.
Now I am not knocking Bella or Team Bella but without Edward there would be no story either. Bella would have been crushed by that van if not for Edward and her story would have ended there. Her love for Edward kept the story going even when Edward was gone in NM. Her whole reasoning for even being around Jacob was because she wanted to do something stupid and hear Edward. The Twilight Saga is about Edward and Bella, not Jacob and Bella, not imprinting, not the pack, not even the wonderful Cullens who I love. It is a love story about Edward and Bella and every obstacle they had to overcome to be together. Team Edward all the way!

Kristen holds the whole saga together. My favorite interviews with her are those in which she discusses her thoughts about Bella. I may not agree with her take on the book and the character every single time. But it's very clear that she's given it a lot of thought. Most of the time, when she says something about who Bella is, I think she's got it exactly right!
She's put a bit of herself in her portrayal of Bella, and I do not begrudge her for that at all. She's brought Bella to life. Love her for doing that.
When she got her feet tripped up this year at the MTVMAs, my first thought was, "Is this girl our perfect Bella or what?"

DK Mulder, this has got to be THE BEST article I've read in praise of Kristen. I've watched Twilight and read all the books, I can't really say I'm a big fan of the movie. What I am a big fan of is Ms. Kristen Stewart. I wouldn't have watched the movie if not for her. I'm so glad that this writing has brought out the intelligent young women out there and got us into a cerebral discussion about double standards. Bravo DK mulder, and bravo to all you readers and your fabulous comments.
Great post. Women are bitchy to one another. Jealousy is a huge problem in this fandom. Kristen is the star of the saga. She has the most lines to learn and the most screen time. She is also the only one getting consistently good reviews. Her other projects are where she really shines and impresses people. I would say Kristen is going to have the best career out of the three. The guys are mostly just known for their looks and arm candy. They aren't improving. Kristen is getting better with every film. She's one of the reasons Bill Condon, Oscar winner, signed on for Breaking Dawn. Many women make our fandom look bad and I must admit, I'm more excited for Kristen's other projects now. The fandom is no longer fun. I hate that a bunch of jealous hags ruined it, but it's true. They hate on all the girls, Ashley, Nikki, Anna, and even Elizabeth. It's sad. I'm just happy that kristen impresses the people that really matter. A bunch of losers who sit behind their computers spewing hate don't. Karma will get them in the end. I agree about paying $10 for Kristen. She is one of my favorite actresses.
Many of you are well said, esp. PrettyBrownEyes~ I saw Twilight & New Moon on VCD way later they came out. Then I bought the books but just read half of the 1st one and put it aside. Obviously, I'm not a Twi-hard. I thought it was a pretty good love story and that was all~
What makes me take the saga seriously is Kristen!!~ Occasionally, I watched one of her interviews and was amazed that Kristen had given such a deep thinking about the story and the character Bella!!~ Kristen's totally inspiring and enlightening. She is THE reason for me to pick up the books and re-read them again and again. I finally got the messages of the books and I can tell they messed up the screeplay of the movies.
For those who crtitize Kristen can't act, it's obvious that they haven't read the books. In my opinion, Kristen got every sentence and every move of Bella right. You read the book and think of the movie, you'll be like, "Yeah, that's what Bella looks like in that situation!" Kristen nails the role, esp. in New Moon & Eclipse. New Moon's script is a total mess (the worst among the 3 to me) & it will be painful to watch w/o Kristen. Like someone above said, Kristen carried New Moon. Also, I think Kristen's acting is the strongest among the 3 leads in Ecplise. It's not because I'm a fan of her. I got this observation after the second time I watched Eclipse.
Kristen definitely deserves more credit, within or outside Twilight fanbase.

The funny thing about this fandom is I think she gets credit from everyone but those within it. As has been said. She is the only one of the leads that is called out by major critics like Ebert or A.O. Scott for her acting abilities. They talk about about her natural gift, not just the natural heat that comes along with being in a major franchise.
It's sort of sad that male critics point out Kristen's talent, but female fans focus on the boys.

Someone had a great point. It isnt just KStew who gets criticized or hated on. I have read plenty of nasty comments about Nikki, Ashley, and Elizabeth as well and none of the haters have valid reasons behind them. Haters are going to hate. I will never understand how people can have such a profound amount of hate for people they dont even know. Anytime Nikki is mentioned, there will at least be a few horrible comments about her being ugly or bitchy. Nikki Reed is not ugly by any means and those saying so are truly jealous. All of the women are beautiful and when people then attack their acting, that is just as annoying.
The cast of men can get away with murder in interviews but dont let the women say something that requires critical thinking or for a person to act over the age of 12 because apparently things get really nasty. It is time to stop all the hate. You dont have to be in love with every actor in the saga. Different people like different things and characters but everyone should respect these women for helping bring the saga to life. Out of the four, reporters seem to hate on Kristen and Nikki the most. And God forbid that the two of them actually be friends because in the media it seems two actresses cant be friends anymore without there being jealousy or pettiness involved. It really is sad and 99 percent of the time the headlines make no sense. Nikki and Kristen hate each other and arent friends anymore…..but then you will see pics of them laughing and hugging. When asked about it, the media will say they are just being civil for the cameras. They cant win and both of the women have had some pretty interesting interviews when they talk about no matter what they do someone is going to make it negative. Down with the haters.
Kristen is by far the best young actor in Twilight.
Unfortunately for her the majority of twilight fans are women, who are more focused on Robert and even Taylor, and some of them dislike her for envy and jealousy, while critics don't reward her acting how she deserves because these movies aren't so great and her lines are too often cheesy. With any other actress Twilight would be a epic failure, only Kristen could make Bella reliable.
However she is here to stay, real fans will follow her forever and critics have other movies for praise her. She is the next big thing, the best actress of her generation.
@maximus…you brought up an interesting point..yes i believe w/o kristen twilight wouldve flopped…first off, the chemistry with w Rob wouldn't have been as great if it wasnt for her…she is a smart girl for picking someone who according to her intuition was right to play Edward..
although summitt had fd up the movies I can proudly say the best thing to come out of these movies are Rob and Kristen…
about the hatred towards the women..i think its very sad because each are very beautiful and very talented so its a shame..it always frusturates me when i hear people say kristen can't act..just because of their jealously or the fact that she doesnt go jumping around in a miniskirt like the other hw starlets so they dont liker her because she is different than them..watching her interviews you can tell there is depth to this girl..that she is passionate about what she does and a deep thinker..its a breath of fresh air really…its tiring to see the same people get all the endorsement just because the media labels them as “pretty” meanwhile when you see kristen..you see a natural beauty..just because she doesnt put pounds of makeup on or tan to no end doesnt mean she isn't…i am so glad she is able to speak for herself and doesnt brag about her accomplishments..
i think we are blessed to have such an awesome twi cast..they truly are down to earth people..as for taylor he is a sweet kid…with some acting lessons he'll be great because has potential…i really want this cast to go far so that even after twilight they dont fade away
as for Kristen..i see an oscar for her very soon at the rate she is going..glad she has Robert because we all know that he at least adored her and speaks highly of her…some twilight fans dont know its an honor for her to be in this franchise.
p.s. i am so glad Robsten is able to keep out of the public eye..never will you hear their bussiness on various hollywood celeb news or tmz or whatever…i respect them for that..just because you are famous doesnt mean you should live your life with the whole world..kudos to them for keeping it under wraps!

Oh, please! all argue about the capacity of acting Kristen. It's ridiculous. We all know he is (as explicitly said ROB) THE BEST ACTRESS OF OUR GENERATION. So better to give more importance to a crisis like the fact that after the Twilight saga to happen with both?
The press will give only important for their activities (acting, theater or music)separated and Robsten wonderful world would end (at least what little we can see Publications).

But we keep hope in Any director of movies or any public activity that realism together (theater or music or other) Who is Not blind and realize the incredible chemistry of the two and today will get anybody more Than Not two of them.
Finally–A post that gives credit to where credit is due. There is no twilight without Kristen. I agree with Rob, Kris is the lynchpin for the series. She is a great actress. I have seen all of her movies, except for Thirteen. I can't wait for WTTR and OTR.
I think Kristen is a wonderful actress and she is very underrated in twilight. Does anyone realize that Kristen is playing Bella exactly like she was written in the books. The lip-biting, the hair twirling, the nervousness. Everyone always says that is what Kristen is noted for in her acting. I beg to differ, I saw her in Panic Room and In The Land of Women. She was amazing. None of those traits were noted in her other movies. She is "acting" like Bella was written. Wait until Breaking Dawn, when Bella comes into her own. Kristen will amaze everyone. Without her, there would be no Twilight.
