Alan Rickman for ‘Breaking Dawn’ Please!!!
Dear Summit,
With ‘Breaking Dawn’ set for production in October, I assume casting is under way to fill the smaller, yet essential, roles that make the book so grand. This is my open letter to cast the best British actor today(sorry Rob), and really enhance the already amazing cast that you have in place. I am urging you to cast the divine Alan Rickman, who will make any movie a stellar one. He adds a sense of class and polish to any production. You have hired Bill Condon to bring ‘Breaking Dawn’ to a higher level of film. So why not cast Rickman as one of the vampires who come into Forks and mobilize against the Volturi. Let’s review some of his most famous roles to date.
Rickman made his first movie appearance opposite Bruce Willis in Die Hard (1988) as the villain, Hans Gruber. Rickman’s take on the urbane villain set the standard for screen villains in blockbuster action films for decades to come. His voice oozes venom and fear. This would be perfect as a vampire striking fear into others with just that voice alone. Rickman would make the perfect ‘Stefan’ as the oldest vampire who returns. You may also recognize Rickman better for his role as the “Sheriff of Nottingham“ in ‘Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves’ with Kevin Costner, where he showed he was a scene stealer. He would also make an excellent Alastair, the misanthropic English vampire who can barely stand a visit from his “friends” more than once a century.
My personal favorite role of Rickman’s was his portrayal as the noble “Colonel Brandon” of Sense and Sensibility (1995). That is my all-time favorite movie. The gentle nuances in his performance are amazing. The way he wears his emotions is perfect. He falls in-love with the heartbroken and shattered Mary Ann (Kate Winslet). You root for the Colonel to save Mary Ann and make her forget the horrible Willoboughy. His scenes with Emma Thompson are flawless. When Col Brandon has to tell Eleanor the dirty truth about Willoughby and his now defamed niece, you can truly feel his pain. This is Rickman’s softer side, which could work perfectly as Eleazer in Breaking Dawn.
Rickman was divine in the film “Love Actually”, playing the lothario husband Harry to, again, the lovely Emma Thompson. Rickman proves he can play nasty and slimy, but you still love and root for his and Thompson’s characters to reunite their marriage. Isn’t that what you want in a vampire, to love and hate them at the same time? He shows that he can be a strong ensemble player as well, making his presence felt on the screen, but never overshadowing his co-stars.
In 2001, Rickman introduced himself to a whole new, and younger, generation of fans by taking on the role of Severus Snape in the movie version of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (2001). He has continued to play the role though the sixth movie, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009). He will be featured, no doubt, in the last two installments of the films. He is Snape to a T, and has made the character a very memorable one; I can only picture Rickman when I think of Snape. He also helped shape the younger actors in the Harry Potter films. Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson’s talent matured and only got better with actors like Rickman around.
Alan Rickman has numerous Emmy nominations and awards, a BAFTA award and several
nominations, Tony Nominations, and other noteworthy awards and notices for his outstanding work. He is a world class actor who has the experience and presence to work in ‘Breaking Dawn’. I would love to see him on screen with Kristen and Rob. They would play perfectly together on film. It would be captivating for all audiences! Summit, you have the time and money to get the best possible product out there in the next two years. Alan will help you achieve that!

I second this, I absolutely love him. Have you seen him in Truly, Madly, Deeply? Or more recently, Bottle Shock. Would love to see him in Twilight.
but for who?Garrett Allister or the Dracula 1 or 2
oh wow great suggestion I never even thought about him before..but now that I do I agree he would make a Great vampire..I like him in the Harry Potter movies he is so menacing lol
He could definitely pull it off.
Where do I sign? I loved Rickman opposite Willis in Die Hard and in Robin Hood, he does evil very well. Alastair would in my opinion be the best choice; Rickman would bring so much polished ambivalence and shades of grey to the character.
I can't think of a film that wouldn't be improved by adding him to the cast
I totally agree. I love Alan Rickman. He completely is who I pictured as Snape when I read the HP books. He's the only movie villain that I adore.
OH!!I would love to see him team up with Gary Oldman as Dracula 1&2!!
Exactly. Get him. He's awesome.
I agree completely. An actor of this caliber would only bring great things to Breaking Dawn. What a way to end the series!
OMG! I already tweeted you but I have to say this again here. I totally adore Alan Rickman and ITA that he must, needs to be in BD. Luv you guys and I miss everyone at the forum. How are the unicorns doing? I also have a couple too on my blog. Love em. Hearts bbs!
Couldn't agree more! Loved him in Die Hard, HP, Love Actually. He'd be perfect for BD! Great post, bb!
Bravo!
Have you seen Alan Rickman in Galaxy Quest? He is great as a long suffering actor forced to play an alien.
Alan Rickman is so much associated with the Harry Potter franchise, maybe that's one reason why they are thinking twice of hiring him. I personally love Alan Rickman, i so agree with you, this guy has class. I love his as Snape. He definitely made a mark there.
But when I think about it again, I don't think it will make a big deal because Robert Pattinson himself is from Harry Potter and look at him now
so i say, let Alan Rickman in!!!
I would LOVE this!!!! I actually love him the most in Sense & Sensibility.
I totally agree…He is such an awesome actor!!! Let him in!!!
Summit, if you need donations to cast this awesome actor, just call me, he needs to be on BD!!
definitely a good choice for Stefan or Vladamir.
He does dark characters real well.
Alan Rickman is the best ACTOR ever, not besr villian. He has played so many other roles like the mention Sense and Sensibility to which he was perfect ans sexy. Check out Snow Cake with Sigourney Weaver. Awesome.
Another film that shows Rickman’s depth as a character actor is “Something the Lord Made”, a film about a doctor who develops the first open-heart surgery, and the black man who eventually rises to fame as Rickman’s surgical assistant. Rickman is a multi-talented actor who brings a razor-sharp edge – and a remarkable level of class and sophistication – to every movie he’s in. Bring him on!
