Bird-Flippin’

First it was Stew. Flipping off the papz that had set up shop across the street from her hotel. Can you blame her? Seems pretty invasive to me that photographers would sit with their cameras just feet from her hotel room. All she wanted to do was have a few moments to herself. She’s allowed. Yes, this is work, but a smoke break amidst all the crazy seems reasonable to me. So imagine walking out onto the balcony to take a break, smoke a ciggy, and decompress for a few minutes and seeing numerous cameras aimed in your direction. At your presumably “private” balcony. Double-bird! You go, girl!

I know the good people of Australia were so excited to have Stew & Tay visit their beautiful country and were wonderful hosts by all accounts. But the paparazzi went way too far in their quest for pix. I saw Kristen getting crucified all over the interwebz. Really?! Put yourself in her stillettos for five minutes. It’s not all glitz & glamour. Girlfriend works her ass off – flying around the world, hitting up all kinds of events, interviews, junkets, etc. – all the while smiling for the assembled cameramen, reporters & journalists. Answering the same questions over & over ad nauseam. So when she gets angry because her few minutes of private down-time are interrupted by scumbag papz, it’s completely understandable. Isn’t it? She’s not some robot or machine. She’s a person with feelings & emotions. Bird-Flippin Verdict: TOTALLY JUSTIFIED!

And then another story was making the rounds yesterday on the interwebz. Rob was the offender this time. As many of you know, he is in LA filming Water for Elephants and is working long, hot days on set. He was supposedly spotted out at a pub last night, on his own private, non-work-related down-time. Someone who is not a fan posted the sighting on her Facebook page. She claims she wanted a picture of Rob for her cousin who is a fan. So instead of approaching Rob and asking politely if she could take his picture, she snapped it without his knowledge or consent. He was supposedly upset (understandably) and confronted her. According to her, Rob then apparently gave her “the middle finger”. *snickers*

So if this is true, a random woman who is not even a fan tries to sneak a picture of Rob without asking, and when he reacts, her defense is, “I am clearly not paparazzi” and “What a douche.”  So if you’re not employed by a gossip rag or photo agency, you’re allowed to sneak pictures of celebrities without asking them first? And your argument has something to do with the fact that they’re “celebrities”, and that somehow makes it okay to invade their privacy? Last time I checked celebrities were people too, not some alternate life form. And if they get angry when they discover that pix are being “discreetly” taken of them without simply asking first, then they are “a douche”? Again I ask, really?! Wow. Not to mention the fact that all other accounts that I’ve ever seen from fans who’ve “met” Rob in public all have stories about how gracious he was when they asked him for a photo. Anyway, this story is totally unverified, but if true, this one’s easy … Bird-Flippin Verdict: TOTALLY JUSTIFIED!

Rob and Kristen, and any celebrity for that matter, are not animals in a zoo. They are actors, yes. And when they are honing their craft at “work” in a movie, play, tv show, etc. then they are there for our entertainment and it is reasonable for them to expect a diminished level of privacy. But they are people too, just like we are. And when they are not working, they have real lives. They have friends and families, and nights out on the town, and cigarette breaks. These times don’t all need to be documented by the public taking secret photographs and blabbing about it on the internet. They deserve just as much respect as you would expect yourself. I would be royally pissed off if someone that I didn’t know was snapping pix of me without my consent. It’s creepy and rude. Why is this situation any different? It’s not. It’s bad enough the papz get away with it! And they use the “I’m just doing my job” excuse. Guess what? They’re creepy & rude too!  But that’s another blog post entirely.

I agree wholeheartedly!!! You should have ended this beautifully written rant with a double bird flip of your own to all of the scumbag papz and psycho non-fans!!! *double fist pump* ;D

Great post. In truth IDK about any of this and I can't believe how much I've read about it in the last few days. What has bothered me is the self-righteousness, preaching, or double standards that I've seen.

How Kris is courting controversey or whatever. Now maybe it's b/c I'm from NY, but controversy is dangling a baby over a balcony. Giving the bird is a Tuesday. How she's working. Well I travel for work all the time and my hotel room is not work. It is my home away from home. If it is like that for me I can only imagine what it is like for them. How she is only giving the paps what they want and she should grin and bear. How my job requires me to deal with x,y, or z and I manage. The last one for some reason makes my eyes roll into the back of my head. How "she's young, but she'll learn," which may make me the angriest b/c of how condescending it is. How I'm a fan of K but I just want her to change how she talks, acts, and behaves.

I'm not even touching R's b/c it sounds like bs, but even if true my thoughts apply to him as well.

I do not believe R or K are perfect. I do believe that fans have a right to express displeasure. But the lack of apathy I have seen from some is truly mind blowing and what has made me angry in a way neither of their middle fingers could.

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Great post!! Totally justified! Ironically, last night on TV a repeat episode of Boston Legal had Alan, one the attorneys at the firm, defend an actress in shooting a pap in an alley because he rushed towards her trying to take her picture. When will the international community wake up and pass a law that bans papparzzi from intruding on people? With all the happenings in the last 15 years (Princess Diana, Nicole Richie, Sean Penn, Brittney Spears, etc.) you would think stronger laws would have been passed by now.

    I totally agree!

I totally agree with what you said. Just because the choose this job doesn't mean they should give up all rights to a private life. Could you emagine what movies, tv & music would be like if the only famous people we had were the ones who like the attention & the ones who would do anything to get attention and headlines…

Well said HEA, I wanna showed this post to the world,to everybody.
Being a celebrity not made their private lives ours.That.all.

Couldn't agree more!! And I hope we get a ton more bird flippin' pics out of them both in years to come :)

Loved the post HEA! My thoughts exactly! It drives me crazy when people think just because someone is a celebrity, they do not deserve any level of privacy…that they signed up for this by becoming an actor. As you said, they are human beings first..not caged animals…and they too deserve the level of respect and privacy in their down time that we would expect and want for ourselves.I'm happy they gave the bird and I hope they keep doing it…the expectations people have placed on them are not fair. They deserve some peace. The paps are creeps..and fans need to understand if they snap pics without consent..they fall into the same category. Awesome job HEA!! <3

    TOTALLY JUSTIFIED x2

As much as I love Kristen as a fan, and I know that her behavior is bound to affect a lot of people's perception of her into a negative tone. Only those minority hardcore fans who love her as she is, are more forgiving. But again we are the minority who are beaten hard and growing tired by swimming against the ongoing tide of Haters comments by defending her and reasoning with logical excuses. Hopefully Kristen will learn to control her emotions better when on the public to prevent another tsunami wave of criticism and prejudice.

K is not the first nor the last celebrity to react like this. I really wish people would stop pretending that she is. Or making excuses for when it would have been appropriate. Whatever. I like K as is. I don't want her to change and become fake like the others. If she starts changing to please the masses that's when she'd lose me.

  15. skye282 June 1 2010 @ 3:34 pm

I see no problem in what either of them have done in the past. They are two people who at times have every right to do as the please just like the rest of us. As for people saying Kristin was being disrespectful to her fans, that's just crap, she wasn't flipping her fans off, she was flipping the papz off and so be it. I can't imagine having to live my life with cameras following me every where I went and I'm sure that must be very frustrating for them at times, especially when they are in private situations. ie balconies and private decks. All I can say is more power to them.

  16. Barbara Fenwick June 1 2010 @ 7:07 pm

I totally agree, and I enjoyed your blog, which was very well written. Rob and Kris get no respect at all, and people then complain when they react. I wouldn't react well, and I doubt these complainers would react well either. I say more power to them.

  17. DKMulder June 1 2010 @ 8:15 pm

The Rob account from that girl was such BS, she didn't even post the supposed picture she has. Lame. Wish people would stop inflicting their personal beliefs onto these two for such minor offenses. Heaven forbid they should do something slightly more controversial, such as refer to someone as a bitch or something. Can you imagine the uproar? Great job, bitch ;)

    Once again…. I love you!

I love when you post blogs like this one because they are always so DEAD ON it isnt even funny.

I couldnt believe what I was reading on some other Twilight sites (which will go nameless) about how Kristen was being such a immature brat blah-blah-blah…. First of all, flipping someone the bird is not immature. If saying "F*** you" to someone is immature then someone please tell me when this was decided! I can not even believe it.

But thank you for this. Once again, as always, dead on!

Excellent job bb. No one deserves to be treated like a rat in a cage.

I SO TOTALLY AGREE! Bird-flipping justified!!!
